We beat the bounds!

On Sunday 5th May an intrepid group from the congregation, led by Mother Claire, walked the boundary of our Parish – 7 miles through urban streets, country by-ways and open fields. Beating the Bounds is an ancient church custom dating from the days when maps were scarce. It was designed to ensure the exact parish boundary was known and remembered, so the right to be buried in the churchyard and the duty to contribute to church repairs was clear. This year we did it to celebrate our 1200th anniversary and welcome Mother Claire to her parish. Along the way we read psalms and prayed for the success of this year’s crops and the well-being of our community.
